"bagel" consciousness

growth purpose spirituality Jan 27, 2023

"Now imagine you have only one day left to live... how do you spend it?"

My mind went blank. I had been envisioning my ideal life and impact moments before... but this prompt paralyzed me.

I was at a conference a few weeks ago with the amazing Tara Nicholle-Kirke of SoulTour when we did this visioning exercise.

And I was surprised by what came through moments later.
Everything dropped away––the noise of what I wanted to achieve and how I wanted to feel––and was replaced with a vision that astounded and overwhelmed me.

I found myself standing on a rocky outcropping overlooking a vast expanse of stars and planets surrounded by inky black space.

But each of those planets and stars weren't just balls of gas and earth... they represented all the dreams I would never dream, the people I would never meet, the milestones I'd never reach, the experiences I'd never have, and the concepts I'd never learn.

Everything crystallized in that moment: I am a Seeker.

As a Seeker, I'll never know it all, find it all, or experience it all.

And that's liberating.

In that moment, I went what my partner and I have been fondly referring to since as "Full Bagel"––which if you've seen Everything Everywhere All At Once you'll get the reference. Meaning, I saw all the potentialities of my life at the same time, and I felt the overwhelming grief and joy at the impossibility of experiencing them all.

It was breathtaking––heartbreaking––and liberating.

It was in that moment that I fully felt what it is that mindfulness meditation teaches us––the true experience of non-attachment and the impermanence of life, and how recognizing that frees you to be what so much of us seek: present.

Because if we won't ever achieve all we dream of achieving...then all of that reaching and striving and working becomes meaningless. And in seeing its meaninglessness, we can discover and amplify what IS indeed meaningful.

Since then, I've felt a deeper sense of trust, surrender, and wonder at all that is, and it's a delicious feeling.

So...I invite you to go Full Bagel.

It's easy to get caught up in the race for the goal, looking a certain way, making a certain amount of money, getting validation from someone, finding the partner, working harder, or creating a vision for the year (let alone the next 5), and so many other pressures.

But if we cut through all of that to the stars and planets of the people, experiences, places, dreams, and knowledge we'll never experience...

We can find true meaning.

We can let go and decide that the stress, busyness, and pressure are no longer our normal.

We can breathe deeper.

We can surrender and trust that we are already at the destination, now.

If you're ready to drop the stress narrative and reclaim true meaning and purpose, let's talk. I'm offering free, 45-minute self-care strategy sessions to folks who want greater clarity on what's really blocking them, are ready for change, and are curious about working with me.
